Mixed Media Collage Fodder: Vintage Books & Sheet Music

I bought this cute children's book today at a new thrift shop.
They had a whole set of them. I may go back and buy the rest!

I hit the jackpot today, finding lots of vintage sheet music,
an old "dictionary of thoughts," and a cute little
edition of Jane Austen's 'Persuasion.'

I love thrift shops!
In Australia, they are called, "opportunity shops."

Quilt Update | Top Sewn!

I finished designing my quilt top blocks on these cool design boards.

Then, Sandie and I laid out the blocks, designing the quilt top with color value and
direction in mind. Then, we went upstairs to get a bird's eye view for better perspective.

I am so proud to have my quilt top (minus the borders) finished!

Stay tuned for more...

Turning Twenty Quilt | Piecing

I had a great day piecing my quilt blocks.

My friend, and mentor, Sandra Kaye's quilt studio is beautiful, spacious and well equipped (including dogs).

My 32 year old Singer sewing machine and I are honored to be creating there!

I learned how to pick out thread for my quilt today.

I also learned that my sewing machine was made before machine quilting was much of a thing, so the built in seam measuring marks are for clothing construction, which is a 1/2" seam and not the 1/4" seam required by quilt patterns.

Sandie fixed my machine right up with a piece of bright tape, calibrated for an exact 1/4" seam.

It worked like a charm!

Stay tuned for more adventures in quilting...

My First Juried Art Show | Archway Gallery and Framing

"Elliptical Orbit" | Mixed Media on Canvas | 12" X 12" | $90

I was so nervous submitting my art to a juried art show and was
beyond thrilled that both pieces I submitted were accepted
into the show. Squee!

The show was sponsored by the Society of Mixed Media Artists
and featured art created by its members.

"The Fallen Lady" | Mixed Media on Canvas | 16" x 20" | $190

The show runs from March 19, 2015 through April 11, 2015

The Society of Mixed Media Artists is full of awesome talent. I am honored to be in the show alongside these very gifted artists.

Turning Twenty Quilt | Cutting (and Pressing)

My dear friend Sandra Kaye is teaching me how to quilt!

I made one quilt, in the early 1990's, but forgot how to do it.

Sandie is a quilting master and I am soaking up her vast knowledge.

Here are the block pieces I cut out (by myself, squee!) ready to be
sewn together and pressed.

There is a LOT of ironing in quilting, LOL.

I will be making a "Turning Twenty" quilt. This pattern lends itself
to the novice (no curves) and to my fabric stash (lots of fat quarters).

Stay tuned for updates!

Tea Time

I have begun treating myself to a pause (and a cookie) and a cup or two of tea at 4:00 pm every day that I am home.

In an increasingly hectic life, it is important to find a bit of quiet and ease when and where we can.

Self care is important.

Nurture yourself!
